Something Borrowed Wedding Decor LC

Your Church House Decorator, Established 1997

We are a full-service decorator. We free you from the stress involved in preparing a hall for a reception. With one phone call, you can have it done. Many of our clients don’t even meet us until after the reception when we are cleaning up. Others prefer to have personal input into every detail. We specialize in converting cultural halls to provide a look and an atmosphere you may have never thought possible.

Below you will find answers to common questions we receive. If you do not find your answers please contact us with your questions.

Are Something Borrowed decorations approved for LDS meeting halls?

Something Borrowed strives to meet both the intent and letter of LDS Church instruction regarding decorating. Our decorations are free standing (i.e. we do not tape, pin or attach to the building in any way). We use UL Listed components and follow NEC rules where they apply. We use only cool, low voltage lighting on fire-resistant (artificial, but gorgeous) materials. We do not provide Christmas trees for any venue. Our candles are battery powered but still radiate the warm welcome glow that gives your wedding the romantic feel you envision.
Our outside lighting does not illuminate or decorate the grounds. It is the tasteful equivalent of a poster saying, "There is a family wedding here tonight and this is the door we'd like you to enter."
While Something Borrowed complies with the broader LDS Church standards, please check with your local leaders as Stake Presidents have the prerogative to be more restrictive. Our intent is to assist your family in providing a wholesome setting that promotes family and neighborhood values.

Can I get my money back after I make my deposit?

No. The deposit confirms both a date and a backdrop selection.   We will begin turning away business upon receipt of your deposit.

Can I see what I am getting before I commit?

Yes.  Call us and we will provide you with the date and location that a given selection will be set up.  Most clients saw the backdrop at someone else’s wedding.  They don’t mind if you see it at theirs.  Please act in good taste and… don’t stay for dinner.

Do you rent pieces separately?   I only need a couple items.

No. We provide you with a complete package that will impress your guests and reduce your stress. As for the couple of items, call us and we will try to help you locate those things.

Hours of Operation

We are a home business and will accommodate your schedule by appointment. Call Kristine. We decorate the day of the event. We will clean-up at your convenience but the latest we will start cleaning up is 9:00 p.m. We are closed for business on Sunday.

How do you keep creating new styles?

We attend wedding trade shows and study wedding magazines.  We talk to brides and listen to feedback on social media (like-us or G+1).  At least every two years we retire the least popular backdrop and replace it with one that you told us you wanted.   While we still have extensive inventory, we have divested far more than we still carry. We keep only the best for you.

I need more than eight tablecloths; is there a charge for the additional cloths?

In even the large cultural halls you will crowd the venue with more than eight tables.  In the very larger halls you can sometimes put ten tables and Something Borrowed includes 10 in the package.  If you feel that you require more, there will be an additional charge of $7 per table.

Something Borrowed requires an hour to clean up, can I start cleaning if my reception ends before you come?

Yes ... but please respect the following:
Do NOT bring chairs into the hall.
Don't take our Pen-set, Cake-set or Card Basket home with you.
Stack the toppers neatly separate from the tablecloths.

Is a deposit required?

When you have selected the style you want you can reserve it for a specific day with a $100.00 deposit.

Is there a travel fee?

There is no travel fee for most of our service area. However, a $50 fee applies to areas south of 53rd South in SLC, north of 12th St. in Ogden and areas east of South Weber.

I’m a return client. Do I get a discount?

Yes. As a return client you always get 10% off the current internet price. We have provided decorations for 2nd and 3rd weddings for many families.

What are my responsibilities?

You hold the contract with the facility you are renting.  You provide someone to let us in at the appropriate time.  You clear the hall of unwanted items.  You set up the facility owned tables and chairs you want to use.  You are responsible for any contractual cleanup after our decorations have been removed.  We take responsibility only for setup and removal of Something Borrowed assets.

What do you do?

We are a full service decorator.  We free you from the stress involved in preparing a hall for a reception.  With one phone call you can have it done.  Many of our clients don’t even meet us until after the reception when we are cleaning up.  Others prefer to have personal input into every detail.  We specialize in converting cultural halls to provide a look and an atmosphere you may have never thought possible.

What forms of payment will you accept?

We accept personal checks and cash paid in full three days in advance of the event.

What if I am having a big dinner (more than 10 tables)?

We carry tablecloths in smaller quantities.  You can rent tablecloths somewhere else or we can provide coordinated colors. Similarly, we have multiple centerpieces of the same genre but fewer than 15 that are exactly alike.  There is an additional per piece charge above 10 tables and a $200 security deposit.

What is a Trousseau?

The possessions, such as clothing and linens, that a bride assembles for her marriage. Throughout history, single young women all over the world have prepared for their change in marital status by accumulating a trousseau. A traditional trousseau -- stored in a hope chest -- included bridal accessories plus quilts, bath towels, and cooking tools and dishes for her new home. From Victorian times till today, the trousseau also has consisted of brand-new outfits to see a woman through her wedding, honeymoon, and newlywed days. Oftentimes the garments in a trousseau were hand-sewn by a mother, aunt, grandmother, or the girl herself.

noun [French, from Old French, diminutive of trousse, bundle. See truss.] According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language(Fourth Edition, 2000).

What is my responsibility with respect to damage of Something Borrowed lc property?

Generally we consider normal wear and tear to be part of doing business. We will negotiate compensation for major damage due to gross negligence.

Specifically, the oil in chocolate fountains causes permanent damage to linens. We provide a special set of linens for events where a chocolate fountain will be used. For other damaged linens, $25 per linen will be assessed.

What is your service area?

We service Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties.

Who cleans up the building when we are done?

Something Borrowed removes only company assets.  Cleaning of the hall is the responsibility of the client.  For safety reasons, we require an hour to remove our items before you begin cleaning.

Why do I need a professional decorator?

Experienced decorators are professionals in the details that provide for a comfortable atmosphere.  They help ensure there will be enough tables and chairs without crowding.  They understand crowd control; from the warm welcome at the correct entry door to making sure your guests never feel that they’re going up the down staircase.

In addition to relieving you of stress and labor before the event, a decorator will become your best friend after the event.  A profession decorator will bring in an experienced crew that can have your decorations removed in 30 minutes to an hour. This allows you to concentrate on other aspects of clearing the building.  You will be tired.  You will appreciate the service.

Why is Something Borrowed the right choice for me?

We feel that the only things you take with you from the night are your pictures and your memories.  Whether you hire a professional photographer or a wannabe, we provide backdrops and settings that will make your pictures turn out so spectacularly that friends will wonder where they were taken.  As for the memories:  It might be more fun for you if you were not there while we decorated. The experience you will have as you walk into the hall for the first time is one you will never forget; neither will your guests.

You will hear the praise over and over again from your guests throughout the night.

Will you hold a date and backdrop while I’m waiting to see it set up?

Not without a deposit.  You may just have to trust your friend’s opinion of how pretty it really was when she saw it.
